Kid Friendly - Yes, surprisingly so. The server we had was fantastic and brought out a water cup with a straw in it for our child, without being asked. The entire waitstaff was very friendly and a random waiter stopped to pick up a pacifier that had rolled under another table. They were really fantastic with kids. The staff also made sure that whenever they brought out food they put it out of reach of little hands, which is really helpful. The only drawback is the lack of a changing table in the restrooms, but that didn't outweigh the good parts. We also didn't feel as though the servers or other patrons were unhappy about the presence of children. Everyone was very welcoming towards the multiple kids in the dining room.
Review:
We couldn't even find a drawback to this restaurant. It's a fantastic addition to Johnson County, and we can and will rave about this restaurant.
The interior and enclosed patio are a cross between a Restoration Hardware/Potterybarn catalog and a Dean and Deluca. In addition to the main dining area, they have a grab & go section with sandwiches, salads, and drinks.
The entree portion of the menu changes daily, but with fresh, organic, seasonal ingredients, that should be expected. It will be very interesting to see how that translates to the winter menu.
What we tried:
Cheese & Chorizo starter
• gruyere and oxaca cheeses, chorizo, leeks,
caramelized onions, grilled sourdough
Tomato salad
• gruyere cheese crisps, heirloom tomatoes,
avocado, foccacia bread, lemon
mustard vinaigrette
Croque-Monsieur Sammie (sandwich)
• country ham, gruyere, local wild
mushrooms, mornay sauce, egg bread.
Entrees:
Capellini pasta with sauteed beef tips
•arugula, mozzerella cheese and corn broth.
Seared Jumbo Scallops
•shallot butter sauce, heirloom tomatoes, and avocado.
Highlights:
-Some of the best scallops we've tried in Kansas City. Hands down. They were cooked perfectly and the sauce that accompanied them was delicious without being too rich or heavy. The tomatoes and avocado allowed for each bite to taste slightly different.
-The tomato salad, made with fresh, in-season tomatoes, was very flavorful. The lemon mustard vinaigrette was just about perfect. This is surely not just another boring tomato salad.
-The cheese and chorizo appetizer, although we're sure it's horrible for you, was a fantastic starter. Slightly on the heavy side, but if you enjoy Gruyere cheese or the spiciness of chorizo, it's worth it.
We liked this restaurant so much, it's been added to our favorites. We'll be heading back there to try out their always changing, local, organic menu options.

Overall impression: It's slightly better than Perkins/Ihop chain diners. The service was great, our server was very kid friendly, and our food arrived quickly and with correct orders. This is really the only way that this restaurant is an improvement over a typical breakfast chain.
The food is slightly better than your average breakfast diner, but it's definitely not as good as First Watch. If you are looking for a basic egg, breakfast meat, potato based meal, it's not a bad choice. We tried the steak and cheese omelet with mushrooms and onion, and the reuben. The french fries that came with the reuben were a good version of the ultra-thin Steak&Shake fries. The reuben was unremarkable. It wasn't particularly bad, yet I wouldn't order it again. There are much better reubens at other restaurants. The steak omelet was in line with your typical order from Perkins, IHOP, etc. At $8.95 per dish, it's probably not worth the extra money to dine here as opposed to a typical chain breakfast restaurant.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture cited the following restaurants for six or more critical health code violations. Most critical violations are corrected at the time of the inspection:
•Barley’s Brewhaus, 11924 W. 119th St., Overland Park, had nine critical violations during a July 28 routine inspection. They included a dented can of tomato paste, a dented can of artichoke hearts and a dishwasher in use with no detectable chlorine.
Chris Sutton, chief executive officer of KC Hopps, parent company of Barley’s Brewhaus, said the violations were corrected the day of the inspection.
“We take health and sanitation very seriously,” Sutton said. “Infractions are always corrected immediately.”
It had no critical violations during an Aug. 11 follow-up inspection.
•Bo Lings Chinese Restaurant, 7105 W. 135th St., Overland Park, had eight critical violations during a routine inspection Aug. 3. They included food held at improper temperatures on the cook’s table and badly damaged wire fryer baskets.
“All the temperatures are correct now, and we are going to make sure that our food quality and standards are kept,” said manager Ian Tilbury.
It had one critical violation during an Aug. 15 follow-up inspection.
•La Hacienda El Camino Real, 1109 E. Santa Fe Drive, Olathe, had nine critical violations during an Aug. 1 routine inspection. They included a cook handling raw chicken and not removing gloves before handling clean food pans and food being stored at improper temperatures overnight.
“Everything is back to normal,” said manager Orlando Martinez.
There were no critical violations during an Aug. 12 follow-up inspection.
•Mi Ranchito Express, 10904 W. 75th St., Shawnee, had eight critical violations during an Aug. 5 routine inspection following a complaint. They included cooked taco meat, cooked beans, cooked pork, cooked chicken, spinach dip and other foods held at improper temperatures, and a can of Raid inspect spray stored on the counter in the service area by the drive-through window. Raid is not to be used in commercial restaurants. It was discarded.
“All problems have been corrected,” said Jenny Bustos Gomez, director of operations.
It had no critical violations during an Aug. 12 follow-up inspection.
•Tanner’s Bar & Grill, 22374 W. 66th St., Shawnee, had seven critical violations during a July 27 inspection following a complaint. They included cooked chicken and chicken tortilla soup held at improper temperatures, and corned beef and cooked chicken dated July 17.
“I trust our kitchen manager and I’ve been paying a lot more attention to expiration dates,” said general manager Chris Urban.
It had two critical violations during an Aug. 3 follow-up inspection.

All I can say about this place is that UrbanSpoon ratings are not always accurate. The food was mediocre at best and the service and cleanliness were lacking. We tried the chicken fajita quesadillas and the burrito bowl with barbacoa. The barbacoa was fatty, including giant chunks of fat found at times. It's not even close to the quality of meat you would find at a Chipotle. The rice and beans were acceptable, if mushy and unremarkable. We tried 3 different sauces/salsas. The traditional salsa is very heavy on onion and cilantro, which leaves little room for a true salsa flavor. The "red" hot sauce wss hot, but tasted heavily of pepper. The "green" hot sauce was slightly better, but not something I'd choose to eat frequently. The quesadillas were decent. The chicken was seasoned fairly well, but they were greasy and average at best. Considering that the restaurant was completely empty when we arrived and had 4 employees working, I was surprised that I had to check 3 tables to find a clean one, and the one that was clean didn't have any napkins in the holder. The food took a while to be prepared and overall, I doubt this place has any longevity. I certainly won't be returning and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Kid Friendly: Mildly, they lost major points for lack of a changing station in the restroom. It's an ice cream place, I'd expect more. Plus, it's really challenging to navigate during the busy times with a stroller. It gets way too crowded in the front of the restaurant.
Review: As self confessed Sheridan's junkies, we knew we had to try Unforked. We tried it on an extremely busy Saturday night around peak time. The service was slow, but not horribly so. The ordering system seemed to be taking forever to get the info into the system, but the managers were attempting to correct this by sending people out into the line to use their hand held ordering system in an attempt to hurry things along. We tried the disco fish taco, Cali fish taco, and the KC Q tacos. We also tried the chips and salsa, the Fundido fries.
The food was all fantastic. Both fish tacos were enjoyable and high quality. the KC Q tacos are very popular and it's easy to see why. They are great, especially considering that this is a BBQ town, but they manage to live up to the hype. The chips and salsas (green and red) both have great flavor and a moderate amount of heat, making for a great combination. The fundido fries are no doubt horrible for you, but tasty. All in all the main courses and sides were excellent.
But, of course, who goes to a Sheridan's restaurant without dessert? No one sane, in my opinion. We tried the Humdinger, which we were told will be renamed soon to "the Kiss My Bundt Cake." I was highly disappointed that the bundt cake in question was stale. The raspberries and custard were delicious, but the cake was obviously not very new. We also tried the Hunk of Love, which is a huge chocolate chip cookie with custard, caramel, and hot fudge. That was definitely not a disappointment. It was fantastic, with a warm, perfectly baked cookie and the perfect amount of toppings. The only thing I would caution against is that it is definitely not a dessert for one person. Overall, I would say that Unforked is a welcome addition to the area and I look forward to dining there often.

Review - Considering that the restaurant is still in its soft opening phase, it has its act together nicely. We had a short wait, around 20 minutes, before we were seated. The hostess stand was a bit disorganized, but everyone was new and doing their best. Our wait didn't exceed our quoted time and we were shown to a table near the center of the restaurant. The decor is a twist on the typical mid-range steakhouse decor (Longhorn, Outback) and urban. I especially liked the metal/wood combination tables and the rock veneer walls. The prices on the soft opening menu were reasonable, with 10oz prime rib for $13, side Caesar salad for $3, and appetizers around $8. For starters, the Gorgonzola, pear, and honey on crostini appetizer was presented well on the plate and had a good flavor, however, the flavor didn't live up to the pricing. The prime rib was a bit overcooked for medium, but flavored well. The garlic mashed potatoes were more garlic flavored than a lot of other restaurants, but not overly so. The crazy rice side dish, which was brown rice, salsa, and peppers was a welcome change from typical restaurant rice, although it was slightly overcooked. The service was fantastic. Our server, Cassie, was very attentive and friendly. She was very busy, but also very efficient. The manager also stopped by to check on our food and get our overall opinion of the restaurant and encouraged us to return once they start serving their whole menu.
It's a refreshing change in restaurant style in the area, and if they continue to improve past their soft opening, it should a good addition to the area. Once they are serving the full menu, a return review will be posted.
